From the Arizona Republic: Seven political activists claiming their civil rights were violated after they were arrested and cited for protesting against Sheriff Joe Arpaio's immigration policies recently were awarded nearly $475,000 by Maricopa County. The settlement, reached this week, was nine times more than what the county's self-insured trust had originally authorized in February, and significantly higher than what the county planned to offer just days before the settlement, according to memos obtained by The Arizona Republic.

This is my third EAD renewal. My 485 is pending at NSC. I am in CA. All my previous EADs/APs etc were filed at NSC.

This time when my EAD renewal is filed (by my new attorney, in new company) I got receipt Number starting with MSC.

Who decides where to file MSC? What's the criteria to file at MSC? Shouldn't it be file at NSC?

Is this a mistake?

I was wondering about DOL letter which my employer received yesterday..for Recruitment process for 30 days..I wanted to know is it because of the conversion we did to RIR process some days back or is it just that they caught up with my TR application after 5 years..TR-Oct 2001

I've just received an RFE for my I-485. I am feeling incredibly disheartened because I thought I'd done everything right and I am struggling not being able to work or travel... I have a seriously ill family member back home, and my husband and I have an understanding that if anything happens I'm getting on the plane no matter what. I'm just praying I get my AP soon so the "no matter what" doesn't have to mean abandoning our home and life here in the US.

It depends on which state you are in and where your labor was filed. No matter where you send your application there is a possibility that they can transfer it to another center. I sent mine to NSC and it was transfered to Texas.

What a chaos? We were so close, turned out to be mirage. When do you expect your GC? My PD is Feb 2006. I do not expect anything positive in 3 years. I doubt anything changed in our career in 2 years. Where do we stand?

Frankly speaking, I always thought that this is going to harm the people with older priority dates but I never vented out. It turned out to be true. They chose almost randomly among the ones who filed during that time and quite many with old priority dates were left out. I think had that fiasco not been there and had priority dates moved slowly, the things would have been more streamlined.

I recommend visiting USCIS page at USCIS - FORMS (http://www.uscis.gov/forms) and doing it yourself as it is the best way to master this.
It is a simple form except that you have to patiently go through the instructions.

As for identification document, if you are applying for an extension of EAD, copy of front and back of previous EAD is enough. You don't need to provide a drivers license copy or any other form of identification.

USCIS continues to streamline its processing of applications and petitions with the recent change in filing locations for several forms. The following forms should be mailed to USCIS lockbox facilities rather than directly to USCIS Service Centers:

* I-129F
* I-130
* I-140
* I-526
* I-539
* I-817

The updated filing instructions can be found on the latest versions of each form, which are available for free from USCIS.

This change became effective August 3, 2010.If you recently mailed an application. Applications already en route to the Service Centers will be automatically forwarded to the appropriate lockbox for a period of 45 days. After September 17th, packages (including fees) will be returned to the applicant along with a note explaining the new filing instructions.

Is the renewal form I-131? Isn't it same as applying for FRESH AP??

No where on the form we indicate that this is a RENEWAL??

Who ever has e-filed AP renewal please help...

hi folks,

I need some help wrt my wife's immi status.

She had applied H1 (from H4), and got the approval notice I-797.
Now, we applied I-485 for both of us on July 1st
But our attorney did not file for EAD/AP, because of time constraints.

Is it ok for her to start working using the H1 from Oct 1st?
Will it jeopardize her I485 Appln?

Any info / experience on this will be of great help.
